Eat Fresh, Eat Local with Oakland CSA

Support a local farming family and enjoy organic quality, nutrient dense produce grown with regenerative practices

Meet Your Farmer

Located in the heart of the Northern Neck, Hickory Nut Farm is owned and operated by an Amish family that relocated to the area in 2020. With years of experience growing produce for the DC market, they moved to the Northern Neck with the intent to recreate their Pennsylvania farm and grow organic quality, nutrient dense produce for the local community.

A lot of work went into the farm you see today. Land was cleared, buildings were constructed, and four large high tunnels were set up for year-round planting.

And then there was the soil that was depleted from years of commercial farming. During their first years on the farm, efforts went into getting the soil ready and healed in order to produce a nutrient-dense, organic-quality product. They used a mix of cover crops, naturally-mined rock minerals, soft rock phosphates, sea minerals, home meals and compost -- all very important for healthy food.

The vision for Hickory Nut Farm is to grow a wide variety of nutrient-dense produce and supply them locally as Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) and to nurture community among the members.
